38 Weeks Pregnancy Update

January 15, 2019

Countdown: Two-ish more weeks, official due date is January 26th but we will see

Weight Gain: 37 pounds. I’ve definitely noticed some swelling in the last two weeks. My feet seem a bit puffier and most days my rings go on and off fine, but there is the occasional time when it’s a struggle to get them off so I haven’t been wearing them consistently.  Still no stretch marks which I’m obviously thrilled about. It kind of blows my mind that my body is capable of growing this much without getting any, but no complaints!

Sleep: It has still been so hard for me to fall asleep at night. I’ve been taking a half of a Unisom which helps (ask your midwife/OB before taking anything during pregnancy). I always have to pee 9000 times before my body can relax and go to sleep haha but then I usually only end up waking up maybe once to pee in the night which is nice.

Mood: I think if you asked Jord he would say a bit grumpy hahaha. I’ll talk about it more in the symptoms section, but I’ve been having a lot of pelvic discomfort, especially in the evenings. I haven’t been feeling great so it’s definitely hard to not get grumpy and irritated sometimes. Yesterday I just woke up in a mood and my day did not start out well. Then to top it off I fell off the curb somehow and sprained my ankle… needless to say it didn’t help.

Cravings: All the vegetables. And peanut butter and jelly sandwiches haha

Symptoms: Lots of pelvic/hip pain. My hips have just been so so achy for the past week or so. By the time 4p rolls around I’m pretty much up for doing nothing at all other than relaxing on my couch. My hip flexors ache, my pubic bone aches, like seriously everything just gets so achy. I have still been getting the strange tingly feeling behind my pubic bone, I think this little babe just must be getting into position.

I’ve been having contractions most evenings. Nothing regular, and they usually taper off after an hour or two, but it’s enough to get me excited! I didn’t have any early labor signs with Theo. One night my water just broke and I was like “well, I guess this is it”. So it’s kind of interesting to have contractions but not have it actually mean something. I”m hoping that my body is doing a lot of warm up and that it will make the actual labor quicker and easier than last time. I’ve been having a warm bath with Epsom salts most nights and that definitely helps with the contractions and the hip pain so that I can go to bed.

Also, my ligaments are clearly just relaxed AF. I think I’ve rolled my ankles three times this pregnancy, the most recent being yesterday. I was stepping off the curb and my ankle just folded underneath me. It hurt so bad and I ended up sitting in the road crying. Thankfully Jordan was outside and noticed and helped me up while a neighbor walked past and probably thought I was crazy. It really hurt though and so I’m mildly terrified that one of my weak ass ankles is going to break before I have this baby. Clearly I need to work on my ankle strength.

I’ve also been nesting hard lately. After the holidays I went on a cleaning frenzy with getting things put away and making sure that the house is organized. I’ve even been cleaning the baseboards which probably looks ridiculous at this stage of my pregnancy but I can’t resist!

Baby boy: It is stressing me out that this poor kid is still not named, but we’re committed to waiting until he’s born now before we choose. Gah, what is his name?!?! He’s still so active and moves like crazy, although the movements have definitely gotten smaller. Poor kid is running out of room in there. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to look like. Will he look just like Theo, completely different, or somewhere in the middle? We shall see…
