I love the idea of having a Christmas book advent calendar. I have always been such a book lover. When I found out I was pregnant with Theo I knew I wanted to instill that love in him as well. What better way to make reading even more fun than to get a new book every night. I’m sharing my tips below for how to make this fun tradition more affordable for you and your family.
Choose Books from the Library
This is such a great way to get some fun new books without having to spend money. Just make sure you keep track of which books are library books and have your kids open those first so you don’t end up having late fees!
Shop Your Own Bookshelf
This will be Theo’s third Christmas so we already have a handful of Christmas books from previous years. I like to buy a couple at the end of the season when they are on sale.
Browse the Thrift Store
You can get such fun classics at a much more affordable price if you get them second hand. Be sure to get to the stores early in the season though before they are all picked through.
Get the Grandparents Involved
Both of my parents were willing to pitch in for a few books for the advent calendar. This means there were less books for me to have to buy.
Start Small
If buying 24 holiday books isn’t in your budget, start with 12. You can celebrate the 12 days of Christmas instead of the 24 days leading up to it.
Happy Holidays!
Love this idea! Will need to do it for Kaia next year!
Make sure to look in the after Christmas sales to find good deals!
