Starting the Third Trimester with Baby #3

March 24, 2021

I can’t believe I’m officially in my third trimester. I’ve finally, FINALLY started feeling good all day long more days than not and I’m pretty happy about it. I’ve done virtually nothing to prep for this baby, third child problems. This includes actually solidifying a plan for where we will be having the baby. I guess now that I’m in the third trimester I need to get into gear. Fingers crossed the third trimester continues to be good to me. Send me all of the good vibes for energy and motivation.

Weight gain: I’ve gained 20 pounds so far. My belly is definitely getting to the point where it’s starting to feel heavy by the end of the day.

Boy or Girl: We are holding strong on leaving it a surprise. Theo is still dead set that it’s a girl and this week suggested that we name her Starbeam (hmmm). Jordan and I are still leaning towards girl too. That said, I wouldn’t say either of us will be surprised if we have another boy. For fun, I’ve included some Wive’s Tale gender predictions at the end of this post.

Cravings/Aversions: I have been obsessed with Caesar salads this whole entire pregnancy, but keep forgetting to mention it. Also, cheeseburgers. Give me all the cheeseburgers. Dinner is always a tough meal for me. By the end of the day I’m just tired and sickish feeling and not excited about anything. Things that I will no longer eat thanks to indigestion include:

Afternoon coffee, curry flavored anything, anything with garlic, broccoli cheese soup, and pesto.

Symptoms: I had felt nauseous more days than not right up until 27 weeks. So for the past week I’ve finally had some really good days where I feel great. I’ve had some indigestion which is terribly not fun, but I’ve definitely noticed it’s triggered by certain foods. Caffeine, gluten, and garlic definitely, so I guess that’s my cue to cut back on those fun things.

I had really bad stretching pains across my bellybutton at the end of week 26 for over 24 hours. It got so bad that I started feeling crampy and called my midwife and check in. She reassured me that it didn’t sound like preterm labor and was just due to my abdominal muscles separating, stretching, all the fun stuff. Thankfully it finally went away, but my bellybutton still feels slightly tender to the touch.

Let’s just get into it… my pubic bone has been SO SORE. Like someone punched me in it. It’s worse at the end of the day or after a really physical day but damn, does it ache. I’ve been icing it which helps and epsom salt baths in the evening also help it a bit. I think I need to get a belly band to take some of the weight off of the area at least when I’m walking around a lot. I’ll keep you updated on which one I choose.

This week was also the week that my midwives wanted to screen for gestational diabetes. I opted to monitor my glucose at home for the week instead of drinking the glucola in office. The glucola drink that’s given in office has a good 50g of sugar in it and an hour after you’ve drank it your doctor will test your blood sugar to see how efficiently your body processes sugar. Since I would never ingest that much sugar in one sitting anyway, I felt that monitoring my glucose at home a few times a day for one week was a more accurate representation of how well my body is managing it’s sugar. I actually chose to do this with my previous two pregnancies as well.

I just ordered a glucometer off of Amazon and then checked my fasting glucose, and my glucose 2 hours after meals for 5 days. Thankfully my readings were well within range so I don’t need to be concerned with gestational diabetes. Ask your doctor about alternatives to the gestational diabetes test like measuring your glucose with a glucometer if you would prefer not to drink the standard glucose drink in office. Also, keep in mind that gestational diabetes often doesn’t present with any symptoms but can be dangerous to your baby, so I wouldn’t recommend just opting out of screening altogether.

Sleep: For the most part sleep has been pretty good. I still wake up once or twice a night to pee but I usually fall back asleep right away. I’ve gotten leg cramps twice in the night this past month so that’s been the kick in the ass that I needed to remember to take my magnesium supplement. I’ve also had a few afternoon naps which have been glorious. Jordan told me I’ve started snoring so that’s awesome for him to listen to. I’ve started snoring in all of my pregnancies around the third trimester and it always goes away after I give birth so hopefully that’s true this time as well.

Activity: I’ve been trying to focus on getting in 2 mile walks at least five days a week for the rest of my third trimester. I’ve also been doing 2-3 strength training workouts, sometimes as short as 10 minutes but it’s better than nothing, and a yoga session or two each week. I’m using Obe Fitness classes online, you can try it out here using my link my two weeks free.

Names: I think we have a girl name, but we don’t have a single boy name that we are considering at this point. Hoping one magically comes to us soon now that we’re in the third trimester.

Gender Prediction Based on Old Wive’s Tales

Carrying high or low: high… but I have with all of my pregnancies so this tells me nothing

Moody or mellow: for the most part I’ve been pretty chill and happy

Craving sweet or savory: hm it’s a toss up. I have been very into salads and soups but also cereal and French toast

Morning sickness or no: so much nausea for such a long time. But I was also very nauseous with Archer’s pregnancy so…

Clear skin or acne: There has definitely been no pregnancy glow over here. But again… I didn’t have phenomenal skin with Archer either.

Dull or glossy hair: My hair has been absolutely terrible. It was so good with my first two pregnancies and this one, not so much. I did go from red hair to bleached to lavender in the three months before I got pregnant though, so I’m sure that played a role.

High or low heart rate: This baby has had the lowest heart rate out of all three of my babies so far. That being said, the boys both had high heart rates so this wive’s tale wasn’t true for them.

Chinese calendar: Girl. This was inaccurate for both Theo and Archer.

Mayan calender: Girl. This was accurate for Archer but inaccurate for Theo.
