Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes

air fryer sweet potatoes

I went back and forth on whether or not I needed an air fryer for a while. I have so many kitchen appliances and gadgets and honestly no real room. My kitchen is pretty damn small. Eventually though I decided to try it out and figured I could always return it if I didn’t use it. Well joke was on me… I use my air fryer at least 3 times a week!

I have yet to make something in the air fryer that I don’t like. It cooks everything quickly, with little mess, and everything turns out perfectly crispy. It’s also a great way of cooking food without having to use the oven and heating up your house (this might be something only us Arizonians worry about). I make a ton of veggies with mine, and so far crispy air fryer sweet potatoes might be my favorite. Keep scrolling for a simple recipe.  Sometimes I include apples as well, like I did in the picture, for a yummy addition.

If you don’t know much about the air fryer, it’s basically a healthier method for making fried food. It’s basically a countertop convection oven that circulates air which allows your food to cook evenly and with the perfect amount of crisp. All you need is a little bit of oil and you’re good to go.

I have the Ninja Air Fryer It was the one most recommended to me, and I really like it. It’s very user friendly, affordable, and simple to use.

Five Reasons You Need an Air Fryer:

  1. It cooks food fast
  2. Little mess makes for easy clean up
  3. No need to turn your oven on
  4. Perfectly crispy food without the fried aftertaste
  5. Very little oil is needed
  6.

Crispy Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes

These crispy sweet potatoes make the perfect dinner side, or top with a fried egg for a super simple breakfast.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 12 minutes
Total Time 17 minutes
Servings 3

Ingredients

  • 2 C diced sweet potatoes
  • 1 T avocado oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Instructions

  1. Turn your air fryer to 400 degrees F and allow to preheat for 3 minutes

  2. Toss sweet potatoes in spices and oil and put in the air fryer basket.

  3. Cook for 12 minutes, tossing at the six minute mark to ensure the sweet potatoes cook evenly.  If they aren’t fork tender after 12 minutes put them back in for a few more minutes.

Recipe Notes

One of my favorite ways to amp up this recipe is to add in apple.  You can add the diced apples in about three minutes after you’ve started cooking the sweet potatoes as they don’t take quite as long to cook. The main image in this post contains apples as well.
