Diaper Bag First Aid Kit

first aid kit

A first aid kit is something that every parent should have in their diaper bag.  You never know when someone’s going to bust a knee open, and it’s better to be prepared.  I honestly procrastinated on setting mine up for so long.  I’m not sure why, I guess it just isn’t something I really thought of.  I think it’s especially important to have on hand when your kids become more mobile, because that’s when little accidents start happening.

Here are the things that I’ve included in my first aid kit.  Let me know if you think there’s anything I missed or should add in.

Emergency Information

On a small notecard I included:

  • Child’s name and date of birth
  • Parent’s names
  • Phone number for emergency contact (I have mine and Jordan’s listed)
  • Pediatrician’s information
  • Any allergies that the child has
  • Dosing information and instructions for any medications included
  • Poison Control phone number

First Aid Items

  • Bandaids (3 regular bandaids and 2 knee/elbow ones)
  • Alcohol wipes- to clean off any wounds
  • Calendula salve- apply to minor scrapes or burns as it is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.  Can be found at a health food store or here on Amazon.
  • Arnica cream- this is great for preventing or minimizing swelling and bruising.  Apply immediately after the injury for the best effect.  You can find this at any major grocery store or here on Amazon.
  • Arnica homeopathic pellets- great when used in conjunction with the topical cream to prevent or minimize bruising or swelling.  Can be found at health food stores like Sprouts or Whole Foods.
  • Apis homeopathic pellets- this is the go-to remedy for bee stings.  I haven’t had to use it yet (knock on wood) but I always have it on hand because if someone does get stung it minimizes pain and swelling at the site.  Can be found at health food stores like Sprouts or Whole Foods.

Extras

  • Hand sanitizer
  • Nuun electrolyte tablets- I love how easy they are to just pop in your water bottle for some extra hydration on a hot day.
  • Floss- because there’s nothing worse than having to walk around with food in your teeth!
