Feeding Favorites

April 13, 2018

I wanted to do a round up with a few of my feeding favorites that I’ve been loving for Theo when it comes to meal times.  I show a lot of these products on my Instagram and I wanted to have them all in one place for you guys in case you wanted any.  I’ve used a lot of these products since he was six months old and we started baby-led weaning.  A few of them have been incorporated in recently to combat the dreaded picky toddler phase.

I will say that the majority of my feeding knowledge has come from Megan and Judy at Feeding Littles, and through trial and error.  I’ve realized that toddlers can be picky and by making eating novel and fun, you can help them enjoy the process of trying new foods.  Check out Feeding Littles on Instagram for more tips for making food fun.   They have two online courses that are designed to teach you how to raise a healthy happy eater.  The infant courses focuses on the basic of food introduction and what to expect.  The toddler course focuses on preventing and reversing picky eating habits.  I talk more about Feeding Littles in this post. Constructive eating utensils

These are so cute and make eating so easy and fun for toddlers.  I have the Construction set for Theo and I like that the fork is actually sharp enough for him to get food onto it.  It comes with a fork, spoon, and a “pusher”.  The pusher is designed to help kids push food onto their fork or spoon, making utensils easier for them to get used to using.   There’s a construction themed set and a garden fairy themed set, I’ve linked both below.

Vegetable Shape Cutters

These are so cute and you would be surprised by the foods I can convince Theo to eat if I cut it into a cool shape first.  Toddlers are finicky so sometimes I break out my tricks to get him to eat, and these shape cutters are the best trick I have to offer you.  I use them to cut shapes out of raw veggies like cucumbers and zucchini, mini sandwiches, basically anything and everything.  Hand Theo a round cucumber slice and he will push it away and say no.  Hand him a cucumber slice shaped like a bunny and he will ask for more.  Definitely a feeding favorite.

Pick Ease Utensils

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… toddlers are weird haha.  There have been plenty of times when Theo is not interested in a meal and then I switch out his regular utensils for these Pick Ease utensils, and all of a sudden he’s into eating again.  He loves using these to stab his food, and if it encourages him to enjoy eating then I’m all for it.

Stasher Reusable Silicone Food Bag

Having snacks available is probably my best mom tip for keeping toddlers happy in public.  I love these reusable silicone bags for putting snacks in so that I don’t have to worry about wasting plastic.  They’re non-toxic, microwave and dishwasher safe, and can be used over and over again.  They’re also way less bulky than tupperware.

Bapron baby bibs

I’m obsessed with this bib brand and have been since Theo started eating solids at six months.  They tie behind the back instead of around the neck, so your child can’t pull it off.  The “behind the back” tie is also better tolerated for kids with sensory disorders that don’t like having something around their neck.  They are  waterproof and stain resistant, and are designed to fit your child from ages 6 months to 3 years.  If you haven’t tried these bibs yet, you need to get one.  Trust me when I say, you will never go back to a traditional bib again.

EZPZ Mini Mat

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of EZPZ mats.  These silicone mats stick to most surfaces so your child can’t pick up their plate and throw it midway through a meal.  If your toddler doesn’t do this… well teach me your ways haha because Theo loves to tip his bowl or plate over.  These mats are dishwasher safe, which is an added bonus, and they travel really well so you can take them to restaurants with you.

NumNum Pre-Spoon Gootensil and Bowl

These set is designed to teach infants and toddlers how to use utensils and how to scoop from a bowl.  The utensils make it easy for food to stick to them, so as little ones are learning to eat their food doesn’t constantly fall off of their spoon.  The bowl has sloped sides, making it easy to scoop out of.  These spoons are the utensils Theo learned to eat with, and he still uses this bowl all the time.

Table Toppers

These table toppers are seriously a life saver when you’re eating at a restaurant.  They have sticky sides so that you can stick them to the table for your toddler to eat off of.  This prevents little ones from eating straight off of the table which can be pretty germy.  They also keep the table relatively mess-free because when the meal is done you just throw the table topper away and the table underneath is nice and clean.
