How to Build the Perfect Power Bowl

January 29, 2018

What is a power bowl?

Essentially, a power bowl is just a big bowl of whatever healthy and delicious ingredients you feel like including in the moment. There’s no right or wrong way to make a power bowl, and the options are endless.  Power bowls are the perfect meal when you are feeling lazy and just want to throw something together really quick.  I often end up coming up with the most delicious combinations when I’m trying to throw together a meal last minute.

If you’re smart, you’ll prep a bunch of ingredients on Sunday to get you through the week.  That way, you can just mix and match things when you’re getting dinner together to create a variety of meals. If you don’t like to meal prep (I’m not the best at it), not a problem. Power bowls are easy enough to whip up on the spot. Go through your pantry and fridge to see what you can find, and throw some random healthy sh*t together. Totally counts as a power bowl. I’ve included the basics for building the perfect power bowl below. All you need is a grain, greens, veggies, a protein, a healthy fat, and a dressing. If you want to get crazy feel free to add some fun toppings as well.  I can almost guarantee you will have at least one component for each category on hand making this the perfect weeknight meal.

The best part is that some foods can be included in more than one category, such as salmon. Salmon is a great protein source but it also counts towards the healthy fats component of your power bowl.
